NSAC logoFresh off a victory at the regional National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC) in South San Francisco, the University of Nevada Integrated Marketing Competition (IMC) team will present their campaign locally at the Advertising Association of Northern Nevada’s monthly PowerLunch on May 1.  The team, recognized for outstanding creative, strategic thinking and superb presentation skills, developed a marketing and public outreach campaign for AOL social networking products.

The NSAC is an annual event held by the American Advertising Federation (AAF).  Each year, a corporate sponsor provides a case study outlining the history of its product and current advertising situation.  Students must devise a completely integrated communications campaign for the client.  Student teams detail their campaign in a 32-page plans book submitted April 1.  Each team then "pitches" its campaign to a panel of judges in district competitions.  The winning team in each district advances to the national finals known as the “World Series” of advertising.  This is the fifth time in the past nine years UNR has won the district competition.  The national competition will take place at the AAF National Conference in June in Atlanta, where this year’s UNR team hopes to claim a national championship, a title the school won in 2003.

For AOL, the 29-person UNR team turned the company’s well-known yellow, “Running Man” icon into huge, symbolic Goliath that they described as “large and in-charge.”  The concept was developed to position the AOL and AIM social networking products as the “mature social networking site that connects people to what matters.”

Ad2Reno will also present their
winning public service campaign

Ad2Reno, a professional group made up of northern Nevada’s advertising professionals under the age of 32, won first place in the club achievement competition for their public service campaign for the Reno-Sparks Gospel Mission.  As part of the integrated marketing campaign which wraps-up in June, Ad2 was able to secure more than $60,000 in media sponsorships and more than $3,500 in direct sponsorships.

Representatives from Ad2 Reno will also be presenting the campaign at the AAF National Conference in June.  As part of the campaign, Ad2 re-designed the Reno-Sparks Gospel Mission Website and also created print, radio, television and direct mail advertisements to help the Reno-Sparks Gospel Mission raise funds and create awareness to better and more effectively serve northern Nevada’s homeless.

Ad2Reno will also be presenting the public service campaign at the a2n2 luncheon on May 1.

Tickets are $20 for a2n2 members and students, $30 for non-members.
